200 Posts, A Giveaway! and One Block down...

This giveaway has ended. I'm off picking the winner now. Good luck to all who entered!

As I was checking my posts earlier today I saw that yesterday's post was my 200th. I simply cannot believe that. I think that definitely deserves a giveaway and details on that will be listed at the end of this post. Woo-hoo!

I cut out all the pieces for the quilt last night and this morning. Since the pattern gave directions by colors and mine weren't the same, I had to call green, pink and sometimes blue or red. I think I came up with a  good system though.

Here is the first block. I did this one all the way to finish just so I could make sure I liked it. And I do! So, I have one done and nineteen more to go. This one took the longest since I can do them in steps now that I understand where I'm going with it. I really can't wait to see how it all goes together. As you can see from the fabric, it will be contemporary and a bit funky too.

Now for the giveaway! I am having a hard time giving this up but it is a fat quarter bundle of Minick and Simpson's Christmas Past. There are 18 FQ's, if I counted right. A few were removed for another giveaway last year. This is a contemporary Christmas collection with dots, candy canes and non-traditional colors but really quite a nice collection. This is perfect for someone who is looking to make a Christmas quilt and, unlike me, can work ahead instead of 12 days before you need it. (Yes, it is only 12 days until the wedding that the quilt is being made for...)

I've never tried this before but you will have three chances to win.

1 - Leave a comment. I would love to know if you plan and work ahead or like me, work best under pressure.

2 - Become a follower, or tell me if you are already are. I noticed that I am at 180 followers. It would be so fun if I got to 200 followers for this giveaway.

3 - This is the new one for me. You will get one more chance if you blog about this giveaway and then come back and tell me you did. I know how much all of us love to know that someone is reading what we wrote. Feedback is ever so important! I love reading all your comments.

This giveaway will end on Sunday, July 10th at 9 pm Eastern time. Make sure your email is connected to your name or leave your email for me. I really want to the first name drawn to get their prize.

Good luck to all and have a great week!

Nancy

  1. Oh, I am the dreaded #1 (at least I was when I started typing LOL). I always mean well and plan in advance, but always end up working under pressure. Just drives my husband crazy. Great giveaway. I have never made a Christmas quilt, so this would be perfect for me.

  2. Your first block looks great...hard to beat green in my book! Congratulations on your 200th post too!

  3. I so work under pressure! One wedding shower, I did a flannel one where you cut the edges, then wash and put in dryer so it all puffs out... i had to bring the wet quilt to the hostess's house to get her to put it in the dryer as I literally ran out of time...
We pulled it out just before gift opening=)

  8. I definitely work better under pressure - I'll sit my butt down and get things done. Otherwise, sometimes I just won't be in the "sewing mood" and I"ll procrastinate!

  9. It seems I'm always working under pressure.... working on a project at the very last minute. I wish it wasn't so....sometimes I surprise myself and finish with time to spare.....thanks for the chance to win such a generous giveaway!!

  10. Congrats on 200 posts! I don't usually work best under pressure, but that's what it seems to boil down to time and time again. Thanks for the generous giveaway.

  12. hello!!!!! I would have to say I'm NOT a planner as I try not to do obligation quilting...unless it's for a small exchange. I only make what I feel like making and I think the christmas bug may hit me soon!!!!! Thank you for the chance, the fabrics look lovely.

  13. OH. wow. I have become a follower! I get it done at the last second! I do think that sometimes good enough IS. I am constantly changing the colors from what a pattern calls for! I would seriously link up to your blog...but I have not been sucked into the act of blogging (yet!) Have a great day! Thanks for letting me read a bit!

  25. I love the block, too. Glad you got your system down and hope the remaining 19 blocks sew up quickly! I, like you, am a procrastinator! I wish it weren't so. A pressing deadline must loom before I am sufficiently motivated to "get her done!"

In order to get my house clean, I used to pretend that my mother-in-law was coming for a visit. She used to live over 300 miles away. Now that she's lived in the same town for almost seven years, I am almost never motivated to give my house more than a "lick and a promise," as my mom used to say.

I love the fabrics you are giving away! Fingers crossed!

  46. I am mostly a work ahead type girl -- I already have a Christmas gift or two made. My family often asks me to make things on short notice though so I do that too. As in, "I need a couple teacher gifts for the last day of school which is in a week. Can you make them?" There is always mailing involved in these projects so sometimes I have to work really fast. My husband says I'm crazy, but I like a challenge.

  49. I will start a project with plenty of time but then I only finish 1/2 or 3/4 of it. I always think that I will have plenty of time to get it finished. Something always gets in the way though and I am scrambling at the last second to get it finished.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I NORMALLY plan ahead on everything that I do, because I hate to get behind and have to hurry to finish something, but lately I've been down in the dumps about most everything and I'm behind. When I get to that point, then I really don't worry about deadlines any longer, it gets done when it gets done.

  65. Happy to have found your blog! I'm a retired school librarian. I've just finished my first year of retirement and absolutely LOVE IT! I don't work well under pressure. If I don't make a deadline for a gift, I find something else for the gift. I'm currently putting binding on a Christmas quilt. It didn't get finished last Christmas so it will be a gift for my SIL this year instead of last year:) Thanks for sharing and celebrating with us! I love fabric designed by Minnick and Simpson:)

  82. I always try to start to get ahead of the game, but end up floundering somewhere in the middle of the project, so end up rushing to get finished by the deadline. So I guess I'm one of those that fall in both categories.

  108. I plan ahead on my quilting so that I actually make time. Once I sit in front of my machine, I will sometimes go with the quilting flow.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I plan ahead if I have enough "warning" that I will want to give someone a quilt. But a gift quilt doesn't always get done on time :). Lately I've been using up older fabrics, so I work at my own pace with no deadline.
Your fabric giveaway is lovely and generous. I've never made myself a Christmas quilt--but if I were to win I'd make one for my daughter. Thanks!

But last year I planned to make 8 Christmas quilts, and kept track of my progress with a spreadsheet. I loved coloring in the boxes as I completed each step and found it pretty motivating.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

  124. I always have the best of intentions, but I definitely work best )and most often) under pressure and deadlines. I love that line and I'm hoping to win. I would start right away, and probably finish up the final 80 percent the 5 days before Christmas!

    ReplyDelete
  125. I am a planner. I love to sit down with my computer and plan every aspect of the quilt, calculate exactly how much fabric I will need, and go from there. I'm not very good at sewing by the seat of my pants! Other things, yes. But not sewing. That needs a plan. :)

  129. After decades of plan my work and work my plan, I enjoy not having deadlines. I do not plan everything ahead of time when making a quilt as like to audition fabrics for borders, binding, etc. Christmas! I'll start sewing before this Christmas and maybe it will get done, maybe not. ...but it will be done for the Christmas after that....

  145. Hello Nancy,
What a lovely giveaway- I tend to work to the wire- sometimes I start the plan a long time ahead but other times I run it to the wire or even have to finish after the event. I am a full day kindergarten teacher in my professional life so sometimes the school year is just too busy to finish everything that I try to accomplish.
