A show and some favorites

It is a rainy Wednesday and I really should be quilting but instead I'm wasting my time on the computer. My day at home is to be spent straightening my guest room for company this weekend. Very excited for the company but not excited to clean and sort. I know once I get started I'll be happier to do it. What do they say, a journey of a thousand miles...

Before I share my pictures, I have been asked to pass on the following quilt show info. And who doesn't  like to hear about a quilt show!

Beaver Valley Piecemakers 19th Annual Quilt Show
Location - Holy Family Parish
1851 3rd Ave.
New Brighton, Pa 15066
Dates and Time - Oct. 11th and 12th 10-5
Oct. 13th 11-4
Approximately 100 quilts judged by a National Quilt Association Judge. The theme this year is 2 color quilts. Also, quilt and sewing machine raffles, vendors, café with homemade food, and a boutique. Admission is $7 and children 12 and under free.

Now for my favorites. I have not been sewing but looked around my house and noticed these things on my table that I wanted to share.

If you are a fan of Susan Branch, as I am, you will love her newest book, A Fine Romance. Susan writes about her trip to England and since it is in her lovely script, it feels like you are reading her diary. Pictures and stories are to enjoy and savor. A big must read. And just wouldn't be the same on an e-reader. This is a book.

Don't you love this little teapot? Makes me think of Alice in Wonderland. They called it a dancing teapot. I just had to have it!

And of course, the sunflowers. Always make me smile and provide sunshine on this cloudy day.

Have a good day, wherever you may find yourself and whatever you may be doing. This day won't come again.

Changing

Nothing about sewing today, although I did cut the backing for the quilt and hope to get back to it this coming week. My deadline was moved so the pressure is off for a bit. Now hoping to finish by September.

Just changed my heading photo. Hated to take away the hydrangeas but just love this sunflower photo. I took it at a friend's house this weekend. I loved the brightness of the flower against the wooden fence. Do love sunflowers because they make me smile! Hope they can do the same for you.

Happy Sewing!

Almost...

As in almost a quilt. I started this quilt about 4 months ago and finally there is pressure to get it finished and as I've said before, I do my best work under pressure! I'm making this baby quilt for the granddaughter of a friend. I will finally get to meet the baby tomorrow. And figure I will at least have a top to give. It will be one of those twice given quilts, for sure.

I am happy with the look and even happier that I found border fabric in my stash. Which of course meant it was okay to buy just a little more great fabric. Oh, my.

I have one more deadline looming. I was lucky to be chosen as an advance reader for Lisa Wingate's newest book, The Prayer Box. I have to finish and send it on to the next reader by tomorrow. I will finish for sure. This was a wonderful story and certainly hasn't disappointed. Lisa's first book, Tending Roses, is my all time favorite book ever!

Hope to have a quilt finish to post very soon!

Have a happy day and weekend.

The flags tell it all

I think we are experiencing the same heat that is taking over most of the country. Our climate is upside down and it is hotter here than it is in the south. Happy to have working AC this week!

I was looking at the garden flags I have out right now. The one above is so tempting and a wonderful activity on a summer's day. Unfortunately, it can only be a dream at the moment. The minute you walk out the door, you want to turn around and come back in. Hoping for a break this weekend.

The people who are lucky enough to be at the shore right now are enjoying a bit of a break. I think the temperatures there are a bit cooler. Sitting there by the water looks like it would be nice.

And one more thing... happy to share my bottle tree. Love the blue bottles and the black-eyed Susans together.

Hope you are somewhere a little cooler than it is here.

Finally, the post

I know the other members of the Good Enough Quilters are patiently waiting for this post. Really meant to get to it sooner but life got in the way. So, as I said, finally the post.

This is a wonderful quilt that was given to Cindy. It is a quilt top but wonderfully vintage. We loved seeing a few of the places where the blocks were pieced together since they ran out of fabric. Simply beautiful!

Now, after making a few changes to some of the blocks, here is our finished quilt top. We are donating it to the Peter Becker quilters who will finish it and then sell it. Can't wait to see it when they are finished with it.

We were really happy that Dru's sister, Deb, could join us for this meeting. And she always brings some of her work to share with us. This is a darling baby quilt she made. Such pretty soft colors and this one is finished.

This is the back of the quilt. Sorry it is not a bit closer.

Isn't this a fun pillow. Deb switches out the pillows on her sofa and I think these were the summer version. She said it was easy and the circles have rough edges. Love those colors.

And the hexies. Deb has over a hundred and only needs about 50 more for the quilt she wants to make. English paper piecing, I believe. Is that right, Deb?

I didn't have a finish but at least shared the blocks I have finished. Now they just need to be sewn together. Can't wait to see how they look.

My quilt pattern came from the book on the right. Love the patterns in this book. We were all wondering about Book One and guess what I found when I got home. That's right, Book One! I want to make them all. Where to find the time...

This is the back of Lynn's jelly roll race quilt. Great color. Goes well with the quilt you see below.

Here is Lynn's finished quilt. I'm afraid I didn't get a good closeup but after stitching in the ditch, Lynn did a squiggly line in the cent of each row. Looks great.

And especially for our four absent members, this is what you missed. It was a nice evening and we loved sitting outside and enjoying Dru's wonderful backyard patio. With fans blowing on the porch, it was a lovely evening all around.

We won't be meeting again until September so I'm hoping I will be posting a finish or two before then. And maybe even some random thoughts.

Hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful 4th of July.

Before I sew again...

Yes, I used the word again. I did some sewing the other night and getting ready to continue. The book shows the finished pattern and the fabric squares show the blocks I have finished so far. My next step is adding white rectangles to two sides of each block. Moving right along. That is until I finish the top and procrastinate on the finish!

Happy Sewing!

A day late...

...well actually, many days late. The Good Enough Quilters met last week and it has taken me this long to actually post about this. No excuses. Well, maybe  a few. Just got very busy and would get to the computer late at night and that is never a good time to try to write anything that makes any sense!

This meeting was our chance to put together the blocks we each made. True to form, I finished my block just a few hours before the meeting. It was amazing how they looked the same, yet different.

You can see the one in the center was one of mine. I seemed to use lighter colors in my second block so we decided to put that in the center.

Cindy graciously volunteered to sew them together and then next time, we will decide on the binding, etc. The picture below shows two of our choices. Any thoughts?

Debbie was the only one who brought a share to this meeting. You win, Debbie. This was an advent calendar she made up in her head. Doesn't it look great?

I had to share a close-up so you can see the buttons. She has little ornaments that will go in the pockets and then on the tree.

And now a closeup so you can see the pockets. She hand embroidered the numbers on the pockets.

No assignments for our next meeting but I really have to sew something! Wish me luck.
